Main Character Impressions (Matti M.)

As a main character, Lena is a bit timid and seems to be a bit lenient to do anything risky. She often tries to hide behind Hana, such as when they are with Alex or when they were in line for their evaluations. She also tries really hard to impress the evaluators with her rehearsed speech, and was afraid to come out and be completely herself. Although the evaluation is an important thing, I fell she was too prepared and nervous, and that may have had an impact on what she said during her evaluation. For instance, she might not have said 'Gray' if she wasn't so worried about saying blue.

I have some mixed feelings about Lena as a main character, but my main impression is positive. She is a pretty good person, but I hope to see a bit more rebellion in the future. I hope she begins to break more rules and explore different options when it comes to getting the evaluation or not. I also hope she decides to dig deeper into Hana's mind and find out what she means by saying "You know how you can't really be happy unless you're unhappy sometimes, right?". Besides these things, I overall like Lena as a main character.

  1. I agree! I think she needs to be more rebellious too. It will make the book a lot more interesting instead of Lena not breaking the rules and living a boring life!

  2. Do you think that Hana is more rebellious than Lena? You said that Lena always tries to hide behind Hana and Hana just goes and does things. Since Hana is more relaxed and everything and Lena is kind of uptight then doesn't that mean that Hana is the more rebellious one?

  3. I agree! Lena needs to figure out what is going on with Hana. Also the book would be much more interesting if Lena would have more fun. Great post!
