The main Character in this book is Lena. She is very self-conscious and is always wanting to do the right thing. Well, more like what she "thinks" is the right thing. Lena never wants to get in trouble while her friend Hana appears to love trouble and excitement. Lena believes that the cure, and the evaluations and the walls and everything the government tells them are true and good things. She doesn't understand what is really going on but she doesn't know any better. Lena always wants to follow the rules. For example she can't wait to get the cure. She wants to make sure that she can never get love. She is scared and therefore is always making safe decisions.
I like Lena. I believe that she can grow from who she currently is and become a better person. She can learn that what she has been taught is not a good thing. I feel like in the end the shy person that keeps to themselves always breaks out of their bubble at the end. I believe that Lena will too. Right now she thinks that love is a "disease" and I believe that by the end of the book she will think otherwise. She will learn and grow. Lena will blossom into a beautiful flower and possibly even learn to love.
